4/16/04 - Current Legislation being
considered is Louisiana Senate Bill
134 which prohibits the operation of a locomotive by remote
control in the state of Louisiana.

this bill is currently in the senate transportation committee and

4/10/04 - Starting today we are

4/7/04 - Amtrak Passenger Train derails
in Yazoo, Mississippi on the way to Chicago, IL. One confirmed death
and dozens injured in what looks to be a complete derailment of the
Amtrak train traveling from New Orleans, LA to Chicago, IL.

3/26/04 - On March 24 - 25, 2004
Brother Todd attended the Arkansas State Legislative
Board yearly meeting. During this time he also met with
the Teamsters and discussed the procedures of the "joint
council" which they use. Also during this time he met
with the AFL-CIO in Hot Springs, AR about new updates
and legislation for the BLET.
3/30/04 - Chairman Todd has also
been in contact with state leaders about a resolution
for the use of Remote Controls in Baton Rouge,
Louisiana. Senator Cleo Fields has introduced
senate bill 134 in the session that started March 29th
which bans the use of remote controls. This bill sits in
the senate transportation committee. He has spoken with
several senators on the transportation, highways, and
public works committee about this bill. Currently it is
not known if there will be enough votes to get it out of
committee or not. You are urged to get in contact with
your division members and have them call their senators
to voice their support for senate bill 134.
